Some hotel bars are simply a place to grab a drink before dinner. Soul of 1927 at the Grand Hotel Centenari is an experience in itself.

The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a stunning Art Deco-inspired space. The black-and-white marble floors, sculptural wood accents, mirrored ceiling, and warm lighting create an elegant atmosphere without feeling stuffy.
The grand piano serves as the centerpiece of the room. Even when no one is playing, it gives the lounge a sophisticated feel. If you’re fortunate enough to visit during one of the hotel’s live music performances, the atmosphere becomes even more memorable.

As a bourbon fan, I naturally gravitated toward the whiskey selection. I was pleasantly surprised to find a back bar stocked with American bourbons, Scotch, Irish whiskey, Japanese whisky, tequila, gin, rum, and just about every premium spirit you could hope to find.
The beautifully illuminated shelves are almost worth visiting on their own.

Not being much of a Scotch drinker, I asked the bartender for a recommendation. He suggested an Old Fashioned made with Monkey Shoulder Blended Malt Scotch Whisky.

I’ll admit, I was skeptical.
I’m glad I listened.
The cocktail was outstanding. Smooth, balanced, and slightly sweeter than a traditional bourbon Old Fashioned, it still had all the character of the classic cocktail while allowing the Scotch to shine through. It was one of those recommendations that reminds you why it’s worth trusting a knowledgeable bartender.

In fact, it was so good that I’ll be picking up a bottle of Monkey Shoulder when I get home.
The bartender was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in recommending something I’d enjoy rather than simply pouring another drink. That personal touch elevated the experience even more.
Large windows overlook Plaza del Ayuntamiento, making Soul of 1927 an excellent place to relax after a day of exploring Valencia. Whether you’re staying at the Grand Hotel Centenari or simply looking for one of the city’s best hotel bars, it’s well worth the visit.
If you’re spending time in Valencia, make time for Soul of 1927. Whether you’re a whiskey enthusiast, a cocktail lover, or simply appreciate beautiful hotel bars, it’s a stop that’s well worth making.
