Humo Decadent Latin American Fare

Overview

Humo Decadent Latin American Fare Restaurant in Cabo kicked off night two of our pre-pandemic getaway. Humo Latin American restaurant is located at Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in San Jose del Cabo. We wanted to check out the Ritz property as somewhere to consider for a future stay. While doing some recon, we came across Humo.

Atmosphere / Ambiance

The Ritz property is beautiful! The restaurant features a great atmosphere and setting for a great sunset dinner. We were excited at how the setting set the tone for a fine dining experience.

The Food

Our food at Humo was great, and the experience overall was amazing! If you choose to dine at Humo, expect to pay top dollar across the board. This meal was expensive and not worth it. We could have had three quality meals at other well-known restaurants for the price of this one meal. If money is no object, then I would recommend Humo. If you want quality for more value, look to go somewhere like Acre (review to come later about our experience at Acre).

  • Appetizer – Wood Fired Roasted Oysters
  • Dad had the Sesame Seed Seared Yellowfin Tuna Steak
  • Mom had the 6oz Petit Filet Mignon
  • My Wife had the Sesame Seed Seared Yellowfin Tuna Steak
  • I had the Totoaba Banana Leaf Wrapped Fish
  • Dessert – Banana Cobbler with Cardamon Ice Cream
  • Wine – Alta Vista Malbec

Attention to detail immediately comes to mind. The staff were spot on and truly knowledgeable about the dishes. We chose the wine pairing option to accompany our meal, and Michael, the sommelier, did not disappoint with the selections.

el Herradero Mexican Grill Features Bona Fide Genuine Mexican Food

Overview

el Herradero Mexican Grill Features Bona Fide Genuine Mexican Food – February 5, 2020

Before the pandemic locked everything down in March of 2020, my family and I went to San Jose del Cabo for a last-minute getaway. We booked last-minute flights and stayed at the JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa. When we got there for dinner, we were craving some authentic Mexican food and immediately knew we had to go back to el Herradero Mexican Grill in San Jose del Cabo.

*** One thing to note, if you are staying at the JW Marriott, you can’t take Lyft or Uber from the hotel into town. You can only take a taxi. You can, however, take a Lyft or Uber back on your return. ***

Atmosphere / Ambiance

After a fifteen-minute taxi ride into downtown San Jose del Cabo, we arrived at el Herradero Mexican Grill. As on our previous visit to el Herradero Mexican Grill, we were greeted by the extremely friendly staff and an inviting open-air dining area. They sat us at our table and handed us menus that featured all kinds of delicious options.

The Food

The waiter brought our Cadillac Margaritas, and we kicked things off with a toast and prepared to order our entrees. el Herredero Mexican Grill is known for their Margaritas and Molcajete bowls, and I am a massive fan of both! They are amazing! My wife and I each had a margarita and bowl (details on what we each ordered below), and they were just as good as I remember from our previous visit. The presentation was beautiful when our dinner came out, and the portions were substantial.

For an appetizer, we had the Queso Dip with Chorizo and Tequila. Served with tortilla chips, it came out piping hot and was a hot stone bowl full of ooey gooey goodness!

For dinner, we had the following:

  • My Dad had the Molcajete Hot Stone Dish with Chicken. Piping hot and loaded with chicken, avocado, and freshly grated cotija cheese.
  • My Mom had the Chicken Quesadillas. They were loaded with grilled chicken, a blend of cheeses, and a side of the best-refried beans I have ever eaten.
  • My wife had the Molcajete Hot Stone Dish with Chicken and Shrimp. You guessed it, piping hot and absolutely loaded with shrimp and chicken.
  • My dish was the Molcajete Hot Stone Dish with Fish, Shrimp, Scallops & Octopus

Five Spice Seafood and Wine Bar in Charming Downtown Lake Oswego

Overview

Five Spice Seafood and Wine Bar, located in charming downtown Lake Oswego, features Pacific Rim-inspired dishes made with fresh, local fare, paired with a Northwest-centric wine list. Five Spice will leave your taste buds begging for more.

My wife and I decided to have an impromptu date night this past Sunday as our daughter was staying with my parents. After some debate, we decided to go to Five Spice Seafood and Wine Bar. Nothing new as Five Spice is a frequent choice for us on Sundays for dinner. It is always great food and a great atmosphere.

Atmosphere / Ambiance

Five Spice Seafood and Wine Bar has a great atmosphere inside, but it is a little on the noisy side. During the warmer months, their outdoor seating with views of the lake is an awesome spot for a glass of wine. If you have never been here for a meal, you are missing out.

The Food

Our waiter came over to tell us about the specials and take our drink order. He mentioned there was a special appetizer of pan-fried oysters, to which we immediately said yes, please. We also ordered a bottle of Jordan 2015 Chardonnay to go along with our oysters. When the oysters came out, they were lightly pan-fried to perfection and a beautiful golden brown. The first bites did not disappoint; right away, I knew I would have to order another serving. They were so tasty and paired with the spicy aioli (I am a condiment freak) and wine, it was indeed a match made in heaven.

The Service

The service at Five Spice is always great! We have our regular staff that we ask for, and Blake, the Manager, is always around to greet us. Makes the whole experience all the better.
