OX Steakhouse is Argentinian-Inspired Excellence

Overview

OX Steakhouse is Argentinian-Inspired Excellence – Mmmm … The decadent aroma of a wood-fired grill greets you as you open the door! It immediately sets the stage and takes you to a place where your brain tells your tastebuds, “You, my friends, are in for a treat!”

If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience, be sure to check out OX Steakhouse. You won’t be disappointed!

Atmosphere / Ambiance

OX Steakhouse is rustic and inviting but small. As you walk in, you notice brick walls and an island bar right by the front door. On the other side of the bar is a fire pit with an adjustable grill loaded with cuts of beef, pork, and seafood prepped to tantalize the taste buds of the customers who are waiting in anticipation of goodness, no, wait … Greatness!

The Food

The menu at OX Steakhouse features a variety of delicious items, all of which are cooked to perfection. Whether you’re looking for a hearty entrée or a light starter, you’ll find something to your liking.

To start things off, we ordered OX’s famous Clam Chowder. OX’s twist on Clam Chowder is bursting with flavor. The “Chowder” is served with Smoked Marrow Bone, Green Onion, and Jalapeno. Very tasty and perfect for our party of four to share.

My dad had the 18 oz Maple-Brined Pork Loin Chop for our main courses, cooked to a medium temperature. The Chop was moist and tender, had excellent grill marks, and the flavor was smokey, earthy, and delicious.

My Mom had the 13 oz Wild Alaskan Halibut on the Bone with Preserved Lemon Salsa Verde. The Halibut came out grilled to perfection, flaky, and fell off the bone!

My wife had the 8 oz Grass-Fed Beef Filet cooked to a perfect medium-rare temperature. The Filet was tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor!

I had the 16 oz Beef Ribeye, cooked medium-rare. It was a perfect pink in the center with great char on the outer edges. The ribeye was so tender that I didn’t need a knife to cut it.

For sides, we had Foie Gras, Sautéed Mushrooms with wilted spinach and chives, Roasted Cauliflower, Yuzu Citrus Hollandaise, and Dungeness Crab. All were amazing and were perfect additions to our entrees.

We had Chocolate Sorbet with Grilled Figs and Chocolate-Olive Oil Cake, Rum Mascarpone Mousse, and Fudge Sauce for dessert. The Olive Oil Cake was so moist and decadent and a great closure to a fantastic dinner!

Goose Hollow Inn – The Best Reuben on the Planet

Overview

Goose Hollow Inn is a long-standing Portland landmark. Antiquated decor and pictures of Portland memories paint the walls. The dimly lit pub is warm, inviting, and steep in history.

Ambiance / Atmosphere

If you are visiting The Goose on a warm sunny Saturday, be sure to find a spot outside on the deck. It is a great place to chill, have a beer, and have, hands down, The Best Reuben on the Planet!

The Food

Goose Hollow is a frequent stop for us on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. When we get a craving for a Reuben, there is no other place to go to but to “The Goose”! I honestly can’t tell you anything about another item on their menu because I always order the Reuben. Actually, the turkey Reuben. The bread is toasted perfectly! The cheese, oh man, the cheese, is melted to perfection with nice crispiness around the edges of the bread. Pile on some fresh Boar’s Head turkey, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing, and you are set up for a mouth-watering joy ride!

The side of potato salad is no slouch either. Just sayin’.

Roe, an Exotic Speak Easy Seafood Restaurant in Portland, OR

Overview

Roe, an Exotic Speak Easy Seafood Restaurant in Portland, OR – October 18, 2019

Roe, unfortunately, fell victim to COVID-19 and is now permanently closed.

Roe, an exotic seafood-themed restaurant in downtown Portland, is tucked away along Morgan’s Alley in the Historic Morgan building.

When you walk into the Morgan building off Broadway and make your way through the small corridor of shops, you come to a staircase that leads up to a mezzanine level in the very back. At the top of the stairs is a door with an inconspicuous sign that reads ROE. As you open the door and step inside, you enter another world.

Atmosphere / Ambiance

As you step in, you are greeted by a small, dimly lit room with chairs and couches lining the outer walls. In the middle of the room sits a serving table decorated with candles and personalized cards of expected guests for the evening. The cards provide a note saying, “Welcome to Roe, please wait, and someone will be with you shortly.” Behind a black curtain, the Host for the evening appears and greets you with a warm welcome and excellent aperitif. From there, your journey begins as you enter through the curtain into the restaurant’s main dining area.

Once inside the restaurant, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The dining area is small, beautifully decorated, and features approximately ten tables and an open-air kitchen.

The Food

We chose the 7-course dinner, and it did not disappoint. Each course offered us visually appealing and delicious servings of goodness from start to finish. The fish dishes were terrific, and the chocolate dessert was simply marvelous.
