Five Spice Seafood and Wine Bar in Charming Downtown Lake Oswego

Overview

Five Spice Seafood and Wine Bar, located in charming downtown Lake Oswego, features Pacific Rim-inspired dishes made with fresh, local fare, paired with a Northwest-centric wine list. Five Spice will leave your taste buds begging for more.

My wife and I decided to have an impromptu date night this past Sunday as our daughter was staying with my parents. After some debate, we decided to go to Five Spice Seafood and Wine Bar. Nothing new as Five Spice is a frequent choice for us on Sundays for dinner. It is always great food and a great atmosphere.

Atmosphere / Ambiance

Five Spice Seafood and Wine Bar has a great atmosphere inside, but it is a little on the noisy side. During the warmer months, their outdoor seating with views of the lake is an awesome spot for a glass of wine. If you have never been here for a meal, you are missing out.

The Food

Our waiter came over to tell us about the specials and take our drink order. He mentioned there was a special appetizer of pan-fried oysters, to which we immediately said yes, please. We also ordered a bottle of Jordan 2015 Chardonnay to go along with our oysters. When the oysters came out, they were lightly pan-fried to perfection and a beautiful golden brown. The first bites did not disappoint; right away, I knew I would have to order another serving. They were so tasty and paired with the spicy aioli (I am a condiment freak) and wine, it was indeed a match made in heaven.

The Service

The service at Five Spice is always great! We have our regular staff that we ask for, and Blake, the Manager, is always around to greet us. Makes the whole experience all the better.

Roe, an Exotic Speak Easy Seafood Restaurant in Portland, OR

Overview

Roe, an Exotic Speak Easy Seafood Restaurant in Portland, OR – October 18, 2019

Roe, unfortunately, fell victim to COVID-19 and is now permanently closed.

Roe, an exotic seafood-themed restaurant in downtown Portland, is tucked away along Morgan’s Alley in the Historic Morgan building.

When you walk into the Morgan building off Broadway and make your way through the small corridor of shops, you come to a staircase that leads up to a mezzanine level in the very back. At the top of the stairs is a door with an inconspicuous sign that reads ROE. As you open the door and step inside, you enter another world.

Atmosphere / Ambiance

As you step in, you are greeted by a small, dimly lit room with chairs and couches lining the outer walls. In the middle of the room sits a serving table decorated with candles and personalized cards of expected guests for the evening. The cards provide a note saying, “Welcome to Roe, please wait, and someone will be with you shortly.” Behind a black curtain, the Host for the evening appears and greets you with a warm welcome and excellent aperitif. From there, your journey begins as you enter through the curtain into the restaurant’s main dining area.

Once inside the restaurant, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The dining area is small, beautifully decorated, and features approximately ten tables and an open-air kitchen.

The Food

We chose the 7-course dinner, and it did not disappoint. Each course offered us visually appealing and delicious servings of goodness from start to finish. The fish dishes were terrific, and the chocolate dessert was simply marvelous.
